I am Patendoyart, [pa-ten-doh-yart],
A Nigerian abstract motif artist and muralist based in London.
I began creating out of necessity in 2021, seeking escape from the mundane nature of my 9-5 job. That hobby has now become my life force as I pursue my mission to cover the world in my signature motif, Paten.
Paten was invented as a response to a popular Nigerian phrase, 'life is dynamic.' My motif represents the fluidity of life—how we naturally flow between growth and regression throughout our various life phases—mirrored in the shapes I create, which merge and flow into one another.
What truly distinguishes Paten are the intricate details within these shapes—purposeful dots and deliberate short lines that represent the specific people and places that impact our evolution in each life phase.
I work at an artist-run studio in central London, where I bring my visions to life. Through my practice, I discovered a profound love and understanding of colour, which I explored in my first exhibition, 'Limitless'—an exploration of colour's boundlessness. My second solo exhibition, 'Patendoyart is Everything,' was born from my desire to showcase the versatility of my motif as I expanded beyond canvas-only work to incorporate a variety of mediums. My work traverses any and every medium I get my hands on. So far I have created pieces on hand-tufted rugs, footwear, skateboard decks, and ceramics, and have further extended my canvas to wall murals.
As Patendoyart, I see every surface as a canvas and nothing will be spared in my ongoing world-building.
