OZEBA, 2024

Mixed media on canvas

48 x 60 inches

I was privileged to be chosen to make a piece for Nigerian singer and songwriter Rema's last album 'HEIS'. This piece pushed my creative capabilities as I had to figure out how to incorporate my motif while maintaining the aesthetic and vibe of the album. The result was a bat cave inspired piece with 3D fluttering bats and my signature motif gleaming through the dark cave-like abyss. Bats have cultural significance to the artist as they are native to his hometown. Following the online controversy after his usage of bats during his O2 concert in 2024, I decided that this piece would be the perfect moment to showcase the beauty and mystique of these misunderstood creatures. By transforming controversy into art, the work serves as both a celebration of Rema's heritage and a visual commentary on cultural symbolism.
